Sunday Summary
This week's listening obsessions
Hello music fans.
It’s Sunday, and I’m looking back over the last week at my musical fixations from the past seven days. Give or take…
I don’t know about you, but February seemed to last a very, very long time. Not necessarily a bad thing - it brought a lot of incredible new releases to my door (which I’m still making my way through on the reviewing side), but I’m very glad that we seem to finally be getting a bit more daylight. It’s been another busy week for me, but a good one - here’s some of the highlights from my soundtrack.
Tracks
Shell Company, Older Brother - 4U (Luv Thing)
I spent a lot of time enthusing about Shell Company when they brought out their EP Adorn in 2023 and I was very excited to hear their new track (in collaboration with Older Brother) this week. It’s dark and moody, but as with each of their previous tracks, it’s thoroughly captivating.
Cat Power - Cherokee
I hadn’t heard Cherokee in such a long time until I heard it on the radio earlier this week, and I’d forgotten how great it is. Enough for me to forget what I was doing to turn the volume up and just listen. Which is always a joyous thing.
Death In Vegas - Girls
I will always associate this track with Lost in Translation (one of my all-time favourite films, and one of my favourite film soundtracks), but I had a blissful moment this week when it started playing as I was sat watching the world go by on a train to Manchester. Four and a half minutes of perfection.
Anna B Savage - Lighthouse
We’ve had unusually good weather up this way over the past couple days, and getting to stand on a beach in the hazy sunset was a particularly great way to make the most of it. I had this track from Anna B Savage’s most recent release, You & i are Earth, playing in my head as we took pictures of the lighthouse and tried to avoid getting wet trainers.
Georgia - It’s Euphoric
A sunny weekend with some time spent on the road meant I compulsively had to bring out a roadtrip playlist. And driving home with my sunglasses on, as the sun hung low in the sky, it was hard not to just smile as It’s Euphoric queued up.
Albums
bdrmm - Microtonic
Very excited about the new album from bdrmm this week. As always, a full review will be posted soon (…I’m slowly making my way through the incredible number of February releases…) but give it a listen. The title track blew me away.
Everything Is Recorded - Richard Russell is Temporary
I’ve been so desperate for this album to be released since hearing Swamp Dream #3 a while back. It’s *so* good, and there are so many great artists involved. As always, more to follow in full review form, soon, I promise.
The rest
In an effort to stop me sharing the same songs with you multiple times here, I’ve made a Sunday Summary playlist over on Spotify. While it’s as much for my benefit as it is for yours, if you want to hear my mis-match of a (mostly) weekly soundtrack, go and give it a follow. I’m also working on something to make a less platform-specific version, watch this space…
That’s all for now, hope you have a great week!
